THAI to launch OnAir connectivity on long-haul fleets

Thai Airways International (THAI) has announced to launch THAI Sky Connect from the mid- February. As per this new scheme on-board passengers can stay connected with their friends, family and relatives via internet. The internet connectivity is to be provided by OnAir.

Working of the THAI Sky Connect will be exactly same as a Wi-Fi hotspot on the ground. Passengers can avail the internet services by simply entering the credit card details. With this facility, people flying with THAI airways would be able to surf the internet, check emails, and update social media. It is expected that OnAir’s in-flight GSM product and Mobile OnAir, will also be available on THAI flights, as soon as the regulatory framework of the connection is determined.

THAI Airways is the first airline in Thailand to offer WiFi facility to its passengers, while Nok Air and Thai Air Asia are still working on the process to get this service.

Smartphone users will have to pay US$4.50 (146 baht) for 3 megabytes or copy4.50 for 10 MB, while passengers with laptops or iPads pay copy4.50 for 10 MB and $28.50 for 20 MB. Fees are payable by credit card or debit card.

THAI airways is the 21st airline in the world to operate OnAir connectivity and the seventh in Asia. Internet OnAir and Mobile OnAir are widely available across the world and are used by over four and a half million passengers each year.
